Hello You

We’ve been running polls for the last few months to get to know you, our subscribers. It turns out that many of you used to pirate music, most of you listen deeply, and many want to do it more often. The majority still use Spotify over other services, and are active when it comes to music discovery. You don’t rely on the Daily Discovery to help.

You want longer reads, and yes, you want our weird playlist updated (five new tracks added now).

This week, we need you in one song. And from that, we (you + us) are going to build a playlist.

Let’s talk →

SongsBrew Editorial

We’ve had the absolute pleasure of getting to know you. As our subscribers have grown, we’ve started throwing polls your way. Until now, we’ve never really made a direct request. So here it is: send us a link to the song that is ‘you’.

Cutting through all the sh… noise, what’s the song? Drop it in the comments. You can share links from any streaming service.

Without a playlist, who are you?

Playlists give us space to compile hours of our favorite tracks, but it also means that if we don’t want to be, we don’t have to be selective at all.

We’re completely limitless.

If we strip away Spotify Wrapped or your TIDAL most played, peel back the layers of music, and ignore anything you’ve half-listened to, what's left? It's easy to get caught up in thinking about eras, your style, what others might like, or whatever your latest track on repeat is. What single song is you? The one that always means something, and you just never get bored of.

It becomes a challenge because we are never just one person all day. We have modes - work, rest, family, play. But maybe at the end of the day, you need a specific song to feel like yourself again.

Soft moments, hard days, overwhelming pressure, focus, grief, numbness, joy, or feeling like you can take over the world, all of that. You’re never just one thing, and if we have learned anything from you, our readers, it is that music plays a substantial role in your life. It means more to you than most; you probably have an outstanding set of playlists - or one very long Liked tracks.

So, how do you narrow it down to come up with just one song?

Maybe this is the impossible task. We hope it gives you something to reflect on for a while. Perhaps you’ll stare at your library for ages, scroll through hundreds of songs, only to realise you can’t pick just one.

Realistically, you’re not just looking at music; you’re looking at yourself, and the parts of you that show up when you think about which track you’d choose.

Somewhere in all of your endless playlists, in the repeat plays, and in the moments where you can be you, is that one song, and while we’d love to hear it and share it, we’re just as invested in you finding it for yourself.

Found yours and want to share? Drop a link in the comments. We’d love to listen. Add context or not - up to you!

(And the bonus is, you might find new music or share something new to someone else when you take part.)

A Final Note

“Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and charm and gaiety to life and to everything.” - Plato.

P.S. You can now find all of our playlists on our new playlist page.

Until next time,
