The first glitch in the first few seconds, and we were hooked. FEVER DREAM couldn’t be better named.
IS KAYLA MARQUE A REGULAR ON OUR PLAYLISTS?
No…
But what are you doing later, and do you want to fall in love?
Kayla asked, and we answered.
Yes.

Maybe it’s the vaseline smeared lens, in combination with the incredible lighting and glitter that caught our attention. The styling is beautiful, and since we are magpies, here we are.
To the music.
The rumble of the bass, with the reverbed I’m Wavy, with the quick glitch, felt like the opening of a UK garage banger. But it slides into a smooth RnB; her soft, almost romantic vocals, combined with the deep bass, make for what we’d call a late-night drive sound.
The layering and texture are done delicately.
There is a careful professionalism that speaks through the quality of the music, and it got us thinking - is there more? And thankfully, there was plenty more music to be found on Spotify.
An album and a string of singles. Color us happy. Off to Midheaven we go. There is some seriously good stuff there. One of which is the interlude, REMEMBER.
But back to FEVER DREAM. In comparison to her previous work, it is cleaner and has more of an identity. We’re big fans of the guitar in the back that is a regular feature on the track, and the set back vocals around 40 seconds.
Yes. Some of the lyrics are easy-reach, but it feels like it was an intentional choice.
What we particularly enjoyed was the almost-Prince styled spoken word that kicks in about 2.30. It shows off a boldness, a confidence in the work.
When you're prepared to strip it back, you know what you’ve got is good. And then it moves back to the richness of the rest of the track.
Diving a bit deeper into the artist, you’ll find a dreamer, a DJ, a beliver and someone who clearly isn’t shy of the artist she is becoming. So we implore everyone to feed her cigarettes and candy, and in a year, we have no doubt you’ll see her and hear her all over the world.
It’s dreamy, it is beautifully layered, and the visuals are fabulous.
We’re looking forward to seeing the world that Kayla builds over the next few years.
