Long Dark Moon is a five-piece indie-rock band from Seattle, Washington. Their second album, COLD ATLANTIC, pairs interlocking guitars and piano with an Americana edge. It was produced by Long Dark Moon, mixed by Matt Bayles and mastered by Ed Brooks at Resonant Mastering.
They point to the bombastic 70s FM radio sound of Crazy Horse and Big Star, and the record keeps drifting back to the Midwest they grew up in, with songs named MACOMB and SANGAMON.
Why do we love it? There's something familiar about Aaron Starkey's voice, a little Death Cab, a little Razorlight, add a dash of Grizfolk in there and mix it all up. COLD ATLANTIC is upbeat, poppy, preppy indie, clean to listen to, and the bass is beautiful. NOSTALGIA is the one for that, it's so bass driven and I love to hear it, so hats off to Christopher Michael Meyer. They dabble with heavier stuff through the album, not by much, just enough. A few tracks on here are going straight onto a playlist. One personal gripe: like a lot of bands, they skipped putting the lyrics up, and I'd love to read along.
