Hello You

Last week, we covered a record that is filled with almost nothing, a cool concept, and something that will push the conversation forward in the UK, in theory, and maybe reach further afield too.

But today, we’re going to be doing something a bit more fun.

What is your listening type?

Goblin? Archivist? Devoted? Skipper?

5 questions. 4 types. Find yours.

Let’s play a game→

Are You an Archivist or a Goblin?

A mind-blowing 1.56 billion people have a music streaming account, and a colossal 815 million of those are paid. The coolest thing about music streaming apps, or one of the coolest things, is how people use them.

Some people have never felt the frustration of winding a cassette back, most often with a pencil because the tape flipped, or carefully selecting which CDs you’ll take with you for your walkman.

But over a billion of us are doing it digitally. Stacking, searching, putting music on repeat, collecting, and creating playlists - but how do you do yours? Do you carefully select songs and place them in curated playlists? Much like a record collector? Or are you a digital music goblin, consuming music in chaos?

P.S., we’ve got a mix of Archivists and Skippers on the team.

Read each question. Pick the answer that fits you best. Keep track of whether you chose A, B, C, or D. At the end, tally up your letters to find your type.

The 18-year-old label Red Bull Records will close by Christmas. All music events have been cancelled, and all music projects under the brand will be ending. The closure of many arms will allow them to focus on their culture marketing programs, like Red Bull de los Gallos, Red Bull Dance Your Style, and Red Bull BC One, which will remain, according to a spokesperson.

After a lengthy legal tussle, Warner Music has signed a deal with AI song generation Suno. The idea behind the collaboration, according to Warner Music Group’s own press release, is to ‘empower the creative community,’ and it is set to ‘open new revenue opportunities for artists and songwriters.’ This is a landmark partnership, and will likely be the blueprint for the future of music with AI integrated.
