Hello You
We’ve listened, heard, and some of you joined in. Our collaborative playlist is now live, ready for you to add more music.
Missed out? Join here: CURATE.
This week? We’re throwing down a gauntlet.. kind of.
For those who have listened to our podcast, we talked about how TikTok probably didn’t support artists that well, and that we needed to do better.
So we did.

Changing Our Ways

We’re not going to harp on about the 15-second viral clips or how much throwing a heart and scroll isn’t going to get artists paid for their work. We know it, and you know it.
However, something we did discuss on our podcast, and have included in an almost 2-minute clip, is that we needed to do better.
Maybe you’re the same. So, putting our money where our mouth is, as it were, we used the ‘add to playlist’ feature and compiled a list of artists featured on one of our feeds. ‘Cause it starts with us, the entertainment consumers. And, while just one of us doing this might not make a huge impact, 20k for a few artists? That is a big lift. It gives all the right signals to TikTok and Spotify to start pushing them on the discovery.
Optimistic? Us? Always.
Heard it? Doubt it.
So here is where the challenge comes in. Putting what we are always talking about into action. New music, discovery, stuff that you’re not going to have on your playlists. We're putting in the work by using our own tips and delivering the goods.
And a big bold bet. We bet that you have none of these artists on any of your playlists, haven’t heard them, AND that somewhere in the list is something you’ll enjoy.
Why it Matters
In some industries, they’d call it proof of concept; we’re just calling it practicing what we preach. The playlist is purposeful picks. Changing how we personally interact with a platform for the greater good of the music industry, and being RecMasters.
The goal isn’t to make a viral hit, but with 20k readers, who all love music, we’re in a position to make a positive impact. So we should. If even a fraction of you stream these songs, add them to your own playlists, or share them on socials, you’re bending the algorithm in real time. That’s impact.
The Playlist
We could leave it to be a surprise, but instead, here is what you’ll be getting:
Argyle — Heal Me
Tooth & Dagger — Drift
Ali Gilbert — Run by the River
Fran Lusty — Only In My Dreams
Òmoìa, Cj Lev — All Monsters Are Human
Edit The Tide — Dancing With Shadows
Lucas Geddes — Regress
Aka Kelzz, daetime — Memories
Seago — Downtown Guy
False Idah — Mars
Hatebound — 2319
Lagrace — DZUA (raw)
Sarah Isabella — Intuition
Tusekah — Baby’s Breath
Miki Ikhifa — Voodoo Jazz
This mix? Experimental, alternative, alt pop, folk, soul, jazz, and some rock. Some with many streams and some with hardly any.
Have you heard any of them (be honest)?
Your Turn
If you have heard any of these before, screenshot it (with the date added to the playlist) and tag us and the artist. We’ll eat our hat and a humble pie - happily, and the artist will be stoked to get some social coverage from fans. If you know there are artists we should be adding to that playlist, tell us. And, if you’re an artist or manager, get in touch.
But if you haven’t… well, that’s kind of the point.
A Final Note
“All art constantly aspires to the condition of music.” — Walter Pater

Until next time,
