Created by Amelia, Songs and Scripts is an authentic music blog and photography space built entirely on genuine passion. From collecting physical CDs to spotlighting emerging indie rock bands before they blow up, Amelia focuses on writing about the music she truly likes rather than just chasing meaningless trends.
She launched the platform to share her album reviews, concert photography, and thoughts on live shows with a community of fans exactly like her. She champions underground acts like Westside Cowboy, praises the vocal talent of emerging bands like Sunday(1994), and explores the energetic hyperpop scene with curation that is completely unfiltered and deeply personal.
Introducing: Songs and Scripts
In a world completely obsessed with algorithmic feeds, finding someone who still buys CDs and actively hunts for high-quality sound is a massive breath of fresh air.
What caught our attention was Amelia’s absolute refusal to write about music just for the sake of it. She is driven by pure authenticity, championing emerging indie bands right alongside high-energy hyperpop and KPOP artists. She started her platform because she had endless thoughts about music and concerts, but a limited number of people to share them with. We know that exact feeling.
She shares our deep love for physical media, actively calling out the streaming industry's pivot toward AI while defending the irreplaceable feeling of holding a physical record and supporting local stores.
We wanted to know how someone who genuinely loves the live experience and physical media navigates the digital music landscape. Here is our conversation with Amelia on finding authentic sounds.
What was the magic moment that made you fall in love with music?
I have always been surrounded by music, especially from an early age! The first artists I remember connecting with were both One Direction and Little Mix, both such iconic groups from the uk music scene, who shaped me into a fangirl straight away. I have always connected music with moments and love collecting physical CDS which added another hobby to listening to music. Another memorable moment was my first concert; Conan Gray in 2022, hearing an album live makes you fall even more in love with it.
How would you describe the 'sonic DNA' of your page/blog? What is the common thread in the music you choose to champion?
I will always write about music that I like! Whether it’s small artists who I’ve just discovered, or even my favourites, but I want my blog to be completely authentic by being filled with music that I like rather than writing for the sake of it over songs I’m not passionate about. I also try to mix a combination of big and small artists in my reviews, getting excited by my favourites whilst also boosting emerging artists.
In an era of endless uploads, what is the one thing, beyond the music itself, that makes an artist impossible for you to ignore?
At the minute I’ve really been getting into KPOP and the main factor I was drawn to was the dancing! These groups are so satisfying and you can’t ignore the talent of singing and dancing with high energy at the same time.
Something else I really think is stage presence is so key, seeing an artists power and confidence shine on stage is so eye catching. I love when artists passions are more than just making songs and more about making art.
What originally drew you to music curation, and what keeps you hunting for new sounds every day?
I love listening to music, my favourites for years and anything new, and I also love going to concerts. I always have so many thoughts about songs and shows but limited people to share them with. That’s why I thought if I started my blog then I would be able to share everything to people who are interested! Posting reviews, videos and even concert photos to an audience of fans that are just like me, feels like posting my work to those who care! I am always hoping to spotlight artists and grow my platform, and the fear that there are so many songs that I’ll never discover keeps me endlessly hunting for more!
Which streaming service do you use, and why?
I have always ended up defaulting to Spotify, however I know its on a rise of becoming quite controversial due to its increase of AI usage, especially for an app displaying the art of music. But I have also spent a lot of time on soundcloud listening to covers and alternate versions of songs- for example the soundcloud version of Waiting Room by Phoebe Bridgers is perfection.
Slightly trailing of but one of my favourite ways to listen to music is actually through CDs, there has been a lot of discourse that physical media is dying out and that “you can listen to songs online for free”, but there's something more special about collecting CDs, supporting artists and local stores, and they're always a much higher quality in sound.
Walk us through your discovery process. Do you prefer the 'wild' of SoundCloud/Socials, or do you rely on specific communities?
Social Media has become such a huge way of discovery. It’s made it so much more accessible for artists to be found by an audience. There are so many songs I have found through TikTok’s, my saved audio list is over 1000 songs long! I also love being reached out to by artists, I am always open to listening to new songs and if i like them then writing a review and even conducting an interview!
What is one trend in the music scene right now that you think more listeners (and artists) should be paying attention to?
I am really loving the hyperpop-electronic subgenre that has been coming from pop recently and also a mix of KPOP! I love loud music and there has definitely been a surge of it. “KGB”- ADÉLE, “CRANK”- Slayyyter, “CELEBRATION”- Le Sserafim, “UNCHILD”- UNCHILD are all songs that I’ve been obsessed with recently because they’re energetic, unique and just slide perfectly into this electronic dance genre.
If our readers could only listen to three artists you’ve discovered recently, who should they be?
I would start of by highlighting “Westside Cowboy”, they’re a Manchester based band who have been gaining popularity recently. I saw them open for Geese just last month and then went on to buy tickets for their own headline show. I feel like there are a lot of bands in the indie rock scene right now, but Westside Cowboy definitely stand out.
I love Anna Eve, she is not really new to me but I really wanted to mention her in this segment. Her music is so beautiful and it really captures emotions that I don’t feel listening to other songs. I really think more people need to hear her songs and she has just released a debut album (I haven’t listened yet but I know it will already be amazing.
I would also say Sunday(1994) are a less recognised band who definitely deserve more acknowledgment! I saw them live in November of last year and the concert was actually the first time I had really heard their music. Paige Turner (lead singer) has such incredible vocals and just such a cool vibe.
