Underrated Streaming Services?

How-to-Geek released their pick of the most underrated music streaming services a couple of days ago. TIDAL, Deezer, Bandcamp, and Amazon Music all made the list. And one that we hadn’t seen before. IDAGIO.

We’ve tried and tested the rest - heavily- by transferring our playlists with FreeYourMusic (and we highly encourage you to do the same). With the demise of TikTok Music just happening, you might wonder how safe it is for a new kid on the block.

But IDAGIO isn’t new to the scene.

It’s been around since 2015 and is profoundly and unadulteratedly committed to classical music. With an extensive and exquisite range of metadata, unrivaled curation, FLAC quality, and a whopping catalog with over 2.5 million tracks, it is a wonder this isn’t making more lists.

And, unlike Apple Music, which also has a dedicated Classical Music section, IDAGIO offers a free tier with over 2 million tracks, all the metadata you could want, a personal collection, and a Mood player.

You can watch exclusive performances, too - nice!

Say Hello to Judeline

If you haven’t heard of Spotify Singles, it has been around since 2016 and has produced many reimagined pieces of music. In fact, in 2021, Spotify released a post stating that since its inception, Spotify Singles had generated over 5 billion streams across more than 300 artists and 630 songs.

Three years on, the figure is now much higher, and they have a playlist of all of the reworked tracks featuring a huge 966 songs!

While covering a song isn’t a guaranteed success, Judeline proves that it can do wonders for showing off vocal range and skill. In 2023, she reworked Shakira’s massive hit - La Tortura, and another Spanish hit, Soy El Único, by Yahritza Y Su Esencia. Ahead of this incredible set of recordings, Judeline was also named a Spotify RADAR artist in 2022.

At the time, Melanie Parejo, Head of Music for Southern and Eastern Europe at Spotify, said:

“Judeline is an example of the very rich talent that exists in the local scene.”

Furthering their work on bringing diverse voices to a broader audience.

This was the first of Spain’s Spotify Singles.

Fast-forward a little to now, and Lara Fernández Castrelo—aka Judeline—has enchanted millions with her ethereal vocals. Her forthcoming LP, Bodhiria, is set to be an aural journey.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Judeline said,

“I would want it to take people somewhere, for scenes, moments, and feelings to appear in their heads,” she added, “I would be happy if it really moved something inside them.”

Big Glo Season

GloRilla has been on the upswing for over a year, working with some of the biggest names in music. Move over BRAT, and make room for Big Glo Season.

Her album, Glorious, was released on the 11th of October - a perfect New Music Friday edition. Critics say the genre-bending is perfection, and the all-star features are a testament to GloRilla's prestige and skill. After all, you don’t catch Megan Thee Stallion, Latto, and Muni Long on the same album without a serious set of writing skills and vocals to match.

The album easily transitions through Rap, Gospel, R&B, and more. GloRilla displays her vocal range and skills in 15 carefully curated tracks.

GloRilla took the term go big or go home literally and went big with her debut. Entering the Apple Music chart in 5th and debuting with a huge 3,486,909 streams on Spotify on its first full day, Big Glo season is upon us.

High Five for Coldplay

We recently covered Chris Martin's super-cute and crowd-pleasing appearance in Las Vegas. He was promoting their forthcoming release, Moon Music, and simultaneously recording a music video for a crowd of unsuspecting listeners.

Coldplay are no strangers to massive hits; Yellow, The Scientist, and Fix You are fine examples of their longevity.

But Moon Music, released on the 4th of October, is a sign that Coldplay aren’t just back and better than ever. They are taking the charts by storm, and their vinyl sales are shooting for the moon… (sorry).

That said, here are some figures that quickly highlight the power of Coldplay. In its first week, the album topped the Top Album Sales on the Billboard charts.

Let’s break that down.

Moon Music debuted with 120,000 units in its first week: 106,000 from album sales, 13,000 SEA units (Streaming Equivalent Albums, equaling 16.71 million streams), and 1,000 TEA units (Track Equivalent Albums, based on track sales).

Vinyl sales hit 29,000, Coldplay’s best-ever vinyl sales week; we said vinyl was back in a big way, we meant it!

Their biggest week since A Head Full of Dreams in 2015, which opened with 210,000 units and 195,000 in album sales.

Big sales aside, we’ve spoken about social media's power with music releases. Beyonce and Snapchat were great examples. However, Coldplay and TikTok created an incredible fan-centric user experience, bringing fans closer and spotlighting their shared content.

Big fan? Get started by heading to TikTok and typing Moon Music in the search field; tap the bar that says explore album and enjoy.
